Released On This Day in 1973: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
December 1st, 1973 marks the release of one of Black Sabbath's most famous albums, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", which was the first album of theirs to receive positive reviews within the mainstream press upon release.
My personal favorite track, as well as my personal favorite Sabbath song in general, is "Sabbra Cadabra". It features Rick Wakeman of Yes (who was recording "Tales from Topographic Oceans" next door) as a session player, but rather than being paid with money, he preferred his payment to be in beer. Fair enough, Rick. I can't argue with that.

Then vocalist Ozzy Osbourne cites the album as the "beginning of the end" of Black Sabbath's original lineup. The band was far into substance and alcohol abuse at the time, and as a result, tensions were rising. Guitarist Tony Iommi had grown tired of being the primary songwriter, as it became too much pressure for him to come up with ideas with little help from his bandmates. In later times, some of the tracks off of the album were cited as favorites for other metal artists such as Slash (Guns N Roses), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), and Brent Hinds (Mastodon).
Are you a fan of this album? If so, what is your favorite track?
