Donovan Releases New Single "Rock Me" Featuring David Gilmour of Pink Floyd

On Thursday, November 24, Scottish folk rock singer Donovan released a new single titled "Rock Me" featuring Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour. This is the first single off of his new album, "Gaelia", which is to be released on December 2nd. It has amassed almost 60k views in under 24 hours with overwhelmingly positive feedback thus far. My opinion? I think it's well deserved.

The song showcases Donovan's signature simplistic style in only the most Donovan way possible. The verses are accompanied only by guitars, and the choruses of the song use a slightly heavier guitar tone that gives off more of a psychedelic rock sound. Otherwise, they are only accompanied by a simple drum beat seemingly influenced by traditional Celtic Music. David Gilmour sang along for much of the song and brought a very Pink Floyd-esque sound to it through his guitar work over the verses.

According to Donovan's Facebook, other featured musicians on the album include Sharon Shannon (formerly of The Waterboys), Nigel Kennedy, Steve Cooney, Máire Breatnach, Noel Bridgeman (formerly of The Waterboys & Skid Row), Anthony Thistlewaite (The Saw Doctors, The Waterboys), Colin Blakey (The Clan, The Waterboys, We Free Kings), Eleanor McEvoy, and Dan Fitzgerald. Pre-order is currently available with the option of getting the album signed. Gilmour is also said to be featured on another upcoming song titled "Lover O Lover".

You can listen to the new song here. What are your opinions on the new track? Are you looking forward to Donovan's new album? How do you feel about Donovan and Pink Floyd's sounds coming together? Let me know!

Happy listening!
